The Surf to City Yacht Race is held with the cooperation of the Southport Yacht Club.  The race from Southport to Shorncliffe is usually a day race for the inshore fleet and a day/night race for the offshore fleet.  The race attracts competitors normally from Queensland and northern New South Wales.

Entries for this race have typically ranged between 80 to 120 with participants falling within two major divisions:

The offshore fleet - for ocean going blue water vessels (mono and multihull & shorthanded).

The inshore fleet - for trailer sailor, monohulls and larger multihull vessels.
